Hooray! I've finally finished moving my workspace out of my house and into... the "Dungeon" at Quantum. It feels really good to have some space to breathe in around the house. One of the things I realized about the way I work is that I'll find an odd thing to work with, it will inspire me and I'll pick it up, planning to make something brilliant, but before I can, I'll find another thing and another and pretty soon I'll have a pile of ideas that I've never brought to completion and it just kills my spirit to look at it filling my living space. So, I have moved all that stuff out,  and in the process tossed a bunch of things and donated a bunch of other things and just whittled down the pile of potential. Some things will come to fruition, some won't, I suppose. Ideas don't seem to be a problem for me... it's time to see what shows up now. As for what I'm doing with the open space... I guess I now have a gallery!    It'll ...

I'm doing some reimaging of my web presence this week so,  in the meantime , here's a comission I did around 1998. These were commissioned by a client as a gift for her husband who was a big fan of mysteries... so who better for a set of bookends that Sherlock Holmes and his nemesis, Professor Moriarty?   If you would like me to create something special for you, please drop me a line at artboy@drizzle.com

Meet my brother . He's going on 54 years old. He's a father. He's about to be a grandfather for the second time. And he's sober. He has been for years now.I don't think he'd mind me mentioning that to you. Give him the chance, he'll talk your ear off about sobriety. Believe me. I know from experience. He can go on for hours talking about where he's been and where he is now. But that's okay with me. AA and NA saved his life. Well, he would probably say his higher power did. And I might say that the choice he made to go to rehab instead of a bar one morning did. Or that the woman at the front desk who slipped him on the bus to the treatment facility after his rehab roommate skipped out and my brother begged her to give him that guy's slot did it... who can say? It's all about the minute to minute choices we all make. To drink or not to drink. To show up or stay home. To pick up the phone or leave it for voice mail... A couple of weeks ago, I ...

For a Survivor...

I woke up at about 5am this morning, dreaming about family and friends in L.A., and had trouble getting back to sleep. So I did what any reasonably techno-addicted person would do in this day and age and thought to check my email... in bed via my sexy little iPhone. There amidst the funny pictures and the offers of deals from VistaPrint, was an email from an unfamiliar address about a butterfly pin that I had made a few weeks ago. The sender was a very brave woman whom I had met briefly last Christmas. She's a friend of another remarkable person, one who seems to hold the world and all its awfullness at bay though sheer good will and faith. This woman is going through circumstances that can only be described as an Orwellian nightmare and , yet, she perseveres. She took the time to thank me for making this piece for her. I had gotten the request second hand and misunderstood it. I thought the piece was going to be a surprise gift and not a request from a person who needed a little ...

Moving Day

Much to Harley's chagrin, I'm moving my studio down into "The Dungeon", a big storage space at Quantum. Whenever small boxes go into big boxes, it means I'm taking a road trip, so first the cats try and stow away in the luggage (see above), then when that doesn't work, they begin the snubbing. We're into the snubbing phase today.  This is what my workbench looks like after I've tipped it over and dumped everything into a box. It hasn't been that clean for at least a year. Here it is in its new home. (Thanks, Shecky!)  Stay tuned!

Staff Infection!

A couple of weeks ago, my  friend Carol Davies called me up and asked me if I'd be willing to create a prop for the Edmonds School District musical. They're doing Disney's "Aladdin" (it seems like everyone is doing Disney's "Aladdin" this year... in fact, Edmonds is so fond of the idea, they're doing it in two different schools with two different casts! Meadowdale Middle School  This weekend! Edmonds Elementary Anyway, I needed to make the staff for Jafar, the bad guy... remember him? So I grabbed a broomstick, some wire, a gallon of Elmer's Glue, Reynolds Wrap, some paper towels and newsprint, and a little polymer clay and went to work!  But, of course it needed to be gold, so I had to make a trip to Lowe's for some spray paint...   Instant Evil! Good Luck, Everybody!
