Flash of Genius

Once again, I am humbled by the amazing talent and creativity that i get to enjoy every time i work as a juror for the annual Edmonds Elementary School Orca-Strated Art Show. Every kid in the school gets to pick a piece of their artwork (from this school year) and enter it into a school wide show, open to the public and judged by proffessional artist types like myself. Amazing stuff... better each year... impossible to judge... Many thanks to the faculty and the Artmoms for making it happen! Flash of Genius available here

F.Y.I.... If you're a Seattle area artist, the fine folks at the Northwest Arts Alliance will be presenting their second Skills Workshop this coming Saturday, April 2nd. If you are one of the many artists facing the learning curve that smacks you in the face the first time you have to apply to a show using the Zapplication portal, you should consider signing up for this. So that made the time and money I spent there a very good investment. I also had the opportunity to work with some very smart, friendly and enthusiastic artists who were willing to share their knowledge and experience t...

Hard Boiled (updated with new image)

There's something I like about private eyes. The standard images are powerful... the trenchcoat, the cigarette, the man in the shadows... but what gets to me is the emotion of it all.  Look at Sam Spade in The Maltese Falcon... really, look at him... You can't imagine him without seeing Humphrey Bogart... What I love about the performance and the character in the film is that for half the movie you don't know whose side this guy's on. Then there's a moment after he meets The Fat Man when he throws a fit and trashes the hotel room, storming out to prove he means business and he wants in on the action. The camera follows Bogart into the hall and out to the elevator. He pushes the button and looks down to find his hand shaking and he laughs at himself, as if to say "Wow, I can't believe I pulled that off" and you realize he's playing every other character off against each other to solve the case, to learn the truth... And ultimately, that's ...
