and a splendid time was had by all!

Yesterday was a full and creative and rewarding day... Up way too early for a Sunday to work the music for "Meet The Biscottis" (opens next Saturday... get your Tickets! www.meetthebiscottis.com), had a great time with Angela, our music director and composer who helped me find new nuance in a song I've been singing for 5 years, then up to Kirkland for an unbelievably, gloriously silly murder mystery  and dinner on the Royal Argosy Cruise boat on Lake Washington, then laughter and drinks at the Beach Cafe with new friends from North Carolina. I don't think we've ever done a show where so many people stayed after the show to ask for pictures with us (or gave us so many hugs and thanks). Spent time with Captain Mike from the Argosy whose funny quotient was only rivaled by a certain bartender who described himself as a "fully licensed massage therapist and manwhore". We stayed outside talking until the sun was down and the moon was high and I piled the ladies from North Carolina into the Capri, took the top down, and blasted across the bridge to give them one last look at the beauty of Seattle.
Days like that make it all worthwhile.

A couple of weeks ago, my  friend Carol Davies called me up and asked me if I'd be willing to create a prop for the Edmonds School District musical. They're doing Disney's "Aladdin" (it seems like everyone is doing Disney's "Aladdin" this year... in fact, Edmonds is so fond of the idea, they're doing it in two different schools with two different casts! Meadowdale Middle School  This weekend! Edmonds Elementary Anyway, I needed to make the staff for Jafar, the bad guy... remember him? So I grabbed a broomstick, some wire, a gallon of Elmer's Glue, Reynolds Wrap, some paper towels and newsprint, and a little polymer clay and went to work!  But, of course it needed to be gold, so I had to make a trip to Lowe's for some spray paint...   Instant Evil! A week with the kids...

This week, I had one of the best part time jobs in the world... teaching stage combat to a bunch of kids in a summer program. I had done it last summer and like last summer it was challenging and fun and over waaay too fast. Eleven kids, eight to twelve years old and five three hour sessions, to give them some knowledge of stage combat and physical comedy. They were total kids... silly, spastic, charming, needy, unbelievably creative, completely exhausting. Awkward, beautiful, fragile, clumsy, glorious kids. The first day of the session I asked them to write their names on pieces of paper, so that i could take mugshots of them and hopefully get some idea of their personalities and imaginations. Best idea I've had in a while... I had kids who knew each other, kids who hung out together, kids who'd never met before. It's amazing how fast they make friends with each other. Cleaning House!

...no, it's not another sale... I'm really just cleaning my house today. Do you have any idea what kind of a mess I make when I'm working away in my studio? I completely trash the joint.  It looks like the Terminator came back through time with the intent of killing Liberace. It looks like a train wreck during morning rush hour for a bunch of people heading to work at Cirque du Soleil. It looks like the aftermath of a bar brawl in the middle of Pride weekend! Piles of rhinestone chain, bits of clay, bags of sequins spilled out where they'll stick to the wrong thing, boxes of stuff that I didn't find the one thing I was looking for in but maybe I'll need them in a little while. Sharpies to paint charms with, little glass beads, tiny hands, rolls of wire, action figures that look like they just got back from a tour in a combat zone. It gets really bad when I'm in between art shows and half my display stuff is packed up for the show and the other half is placed
